PNG transparency Fix for IE6

This is a bulletproof fix for the PNG transparency issue in
IE6 without any scripts.

Use Fireworks to export the image as a PNG 8 with alpha
transparency. Here is how:

1. Open the file in Fireworks (I’m using Adobe
Fireworks CS4)

2. The select Export Wizard for the File menu.

3. In the Export Wizard properties box choose
select an export format and click continue.

4. Next select the The web option and click
continue, then click exit.

5. Now you should be in the Image preview properties
window. Select PNG 8 from the
format selection dropdown menu.

6. This step is very important. Make sure you
choose Alpha transparent from the transparency selection dropdown menu; them
click export and save your IE6 proof transparent PNG!

And that’s it you’re done.

Never use images for important content like headlines, links and any calls to action.
Use alt text for all images for a better experience in Gmail and always add the height and width to the image to ensure that the blank placeholder image doesn’t throw your design out.
Add a text-based link to a web version of your design at the top of your email.
Ensure your most compelling content is at the top (and preferably to the left).
Test your design in a preview pane, full screen and with images turned on and off before you send it.
Ask your subscriber to add your From address to their address book at every opportunity.

• Include the company name or brand in the subject line.
• Include both text and image links to attract attention and boost click rates.
• Lifestyle photography attracts consumers and can yield higher click rates.
• Placing the call-to-action above the fold is critical for all marketers, but especially for BtoB companies.
• If you’re using the same format over and over again, consider making a switch. BtoB emails in a
postcard format had the highest average click rate, whereas BtoC companies had highest average click rates for newsletter
formats.

Balance text and images equally
Include 6-10 links in the email creative
For BtoC emails use a combination of text and images links
For BtoB emails use a mostly text links

Text links increase open rates 3 percent higher than image links
If navigation bar is included the best place for them in BtoC creatives is on the left and on BtoB its on the top
Always place call to action above the fold
The layout for a BtoC email creative should be a newsletter format while the BtoB should be a postcard format
